Today I discovered a new fruit from Asia and fell in love with its name: Melinjo. Have you heard of it? Let me tell you about it. This exotic fruit from Southeast Asia is a little-known gem. Scientifically called Gnetum gnemon, this medium-sized tree can grow up to 15 meters tall and is native to Indonesia, though it is also found in other tropical climates of Asia. It has long, lanceolate leaves with white flowers streaked with red. The melinjo produces fruits that change color from yellow to purple, with a thin shell and a peculiarly bitter taste.
