Product Details
I am pleased to offer to the Etsy Community 4 different R&W whimsical figures. Please consider the pictures as part of my narrative description. Wallace Berrie made a company in the mid-1960s to become involved in children's and adults' whimsical figures. From my research, these 4 figures represent the first profitable venture for Berrie who made these cute figures under the name of R & W Company. These cute figurines were designed to be for both an office desk or a gift and were made of a plastic resin that was easy to produce. These specific figurines were from 1970 - 1973. They were all made in the US, and ultimately similar figurines appeared from offshore manufacturers at a cheaper price. It's clear that Berry's mindset was that innovation was good for a few years until someone figured out how to make a cheaper copy. Although the figures are plastic resin, they are well-detailed and a little heavy. If Berry was still around he would smile when he learned that these resin figurines were now actually prized collectibles, but still whimsical and brings a smile to the owner. Ultimately Berrie was quite successful. He purchased the universal rights to the Smurfs and even had total rights to manufacture Sesame Street, Raggedy Ann, and many other profitable dolls and figures. Please view the pictures and email me if you have any questions.
