Maybe here: this book breaks my heart. It is narrated by Philippe, a writer who recounts his youth in 1980s France. A highlight of that period was his romance with Thomas, the boy who captivated him so much that Philippe would carry the memory of him for the rest of his life. 

𝙇𝙞𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙚 is not the happy sort of romance. It is a melancholy, captivating account of a love that could have been so great had it not been trampled down by society and its prejudices. But while it does not end happily, it has one of the most beautiful, if tragic, romances I have ever read, which affected me so badly that by the end I was struggling to compose myself.
