The Closed Herringbone Stitch provides a quick and hassle-free filling for any kind of leaves. It takes on curves easily and creates a great texture. This pattern is great to be done as a single leaf or scatter around a larger area of fabric.

In week 6 of The Happy Stitch Project, I'm showing you how to make this herringbone stitch ombre heart hoop - in time for Valentine's Day too!

The Closed Herringbone Stitch is excellent for making quick fillings on leaf-shaped patterns. I drew this sunflower pattern on a 4″ hoop and could not think of a better stitch to fill the petals.

Surface embroidery is worked on a closely woven fabric such as cotton or silk with surface embroidery stitches. You do not have to count threads of the fabric.
