- Our plan is to build a wooden deck and then build all 4 walls strictly out of straw bales (with the exception of the door frame) up to a 5' wall height all around. Can you guys tell me if I'm on the right track with my thinking?.

It was important to Julia and John to build a house in a way that was respectful of the environment and that would be sustainable to live in long-term. It took three years from when they started building to before they were able to move in, but it's because they did nearly all the work themselves.
