I occasionally see folks asking for an inexpensive way to finish pieces that is an alternative to framing.  For pieces that are signifcantly longer than they are tall, I've recently been doing scrolls.  All told, supplies for framing usually run me $5 or less; this particular example ran closer to $25 with the special fabric I bought, but overall it's cheap and relatively easy to do.
