Thought I'd take a trip to Chester Zoo today and activate the annual pass, and suffice to say these guys were a magnet! This noisy but beautiful 4-month old little guy/gal (yet to be sexed) is one of a litter of three from the fantastic breeding programme they have at Chester. The Sumatran are the World's smallest Tiger and are critically endangered in Indonesia, with worryingly only around 300 left in the wild due to poaching and habitat destruction. © Ben Stacey All Rights Reserved…

Even though the Sumatran is the smallest tiger subspecies, it’s still a pretty big cat. Imagine a tiger the same length as a school cafeteria table! Its orange coat is darker than other subspecies, as it is native to dark jungle habitat on the island of Sumatra; the sides of the face have longer fur, perhaps as protection against jungle plants.
