62K views · 2.8K reactions | This portable folding table takes just three studs ($40 in materials), and basic tools to build! I used leftover scraps, keeping my costs ultra low. So for me it’s worth it. I started with 32-inch legs by slicing a 2x4 in half, clamping it securely before cutting. The table is 40 inches wide, with 14-inch leg extensions. I glued, pre-drilled, and screwed the legs together with 3-inch screws, then built the back with full-sized 2x4s. For the folding mechanism, I attached each leg near the edge using six 2½-inch hinges. The top is ¾-inch sande plywood, the most expensive part, but cutting a 4x8 sheet into quarters saves money.  To make it fold, I trimmed a strip the width of a 2x4 and left a small gap to prevent rubbing before installing 2 hinges.
