Day 91: One of our favourites in the current National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Art Award exhibition is Penny Evans (@pennye66) intricate ceramic and echidna quills work Trophy Wife. Made of earthenware clay this wall piece speaks about Aboriginal women and women generally in regards to domestic violence says the artist. She speaks of black women being taken forcibly by white men on the frontiers their subsequent domestic slavery and martyrdom. #100DaysOfArtists #artuncovered #art #contempora
Day 96: Featured in this monthss @houseandgarden on their Terracotta trend page Karrika Belle Davidson is a Pitjantjatjarra woman from Papulankutja (Blackstone). Karrika is a founding member of Irrunytju Arts and Chair of Ngaanyatjarra Media. She is an excellent story-teller and knows the complex layers of many of the tjukurpa that traverse and intersect in the region. She lives with her family in Irrunytju where she works as a painter translator and producer of short documentaries about local culture.
