SPRING STREET HOTEL by asap/
The design of the hotel is based on the idea of a large rock in the landscape, drawing on a generation of land art in Los Angeles and the southwestern United States. It benefits from the tension with the existing historic buildings to create a distinctive icon in the landscape, framed by outdoor public spaces adjacent to the entry. Interiors will be simple and modern with a design tailored to emphasize the hotel’s cultural program. The roof bar will be downtown LA’ highest outdoor public space.

F HOUSE by asap/
F-House was commissioned to add a design-driven accessory dwelling unit to a home in LA’s Melrose District. The unit was intended to combine parking with additional family space, while also re-conceiving the home’s outdoor areas. Taking into account the brief as well as some challenging privacy issues, we proposed a very simple building “clad” in hanging vines, which would act as both a sun screen as well as a moveable object, interacting with doors and windows to create a variety of impressions
Situated on an urban infill site, this house builds on Buffalo’s rich architectural heritage, with works by Frank Lloyd Wright and H.H. Richardson only steps away. But rather than looking only to the past, the house offers a model for twenty-first central urban life, with a soaring interior space organized around views, nature and daylight. At the same time, the exterior respects the massing and rhythm of the historic neighborhood in which it is situated. This project was a conversion of an existing garage into the new home of a startup software company. Designed around a set of OSB-clad boxes, the design plays with solid and void, with the boxes forming an irregular composition in the main garage workspace, but resolving in an ordered, formal elevation in the adjacent workroom. Color animates the spaces, creating a playful contrast with the white and neutral palette of the open areas. The proposed expansion to the North Park Academy would create a dramatic new addition to a historic but undistinguished existing school. Occupying an unusual triangular site, the bold form of the new structure would offer an appealing visual termination to the axis of the avenue approaching the school.
